Annual Parade of Jewish Veterans, Whitehall, November 16th 2025
16th November 2025
On November 16th I had the honour of attending the Jewish Veterans’ Remembrance Parade and Ceremony in Whitehall. 2,500 veterans and descendants took part in the parade. As I raised my eyes to study the Cenotaph I held in my heart and mind the Jewish agents whose stories I have encountered and admired: Joseph Scheinmann, Maurice Pertschuk and Jack Nissenthal, as well as Denise Bloch, Adam Rabinovitch, Isadore Newman and Muriel Byck.
Of course, this annual Remembrance organised by AJEX (The Jewish Military Association) commemorates many many more. 50,000 British Jews served in WW1 with almost 3,000 giving their lives, whilst in WW2 over 60,000 British Jews served and died all over the world. Five Victoria Crosses were awarded in WW!, three in WW2. A wonderful contribution from a relatively small community. It is so important that they are remembered and honoured.
